AGCO Corporation and its line of self-propelled application equipment are no strangers to accolades and awards. Here’s yet another biggie – the RoGator® 1396 has been named the 2010 CropLife IRON Product of the Year by readers of that influential industry publication.

CropLife IRON is a major magazine with a huge following within the farm equipment industry. It is widely read and quoted by some of the most knowledgeable people in the marketplace, many of whom are farm equipment dealers in general, AGCO dealers in particular and our core customer base of professional applicators and medium- to large-scale farm operators who do their own applications of crop-protection products.

Online voting for five products vying for the Product of the Year award was opened to the public in mid-November, 2010, and the RoGator was announced as the winner of this elite award at the Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association meeting in Peoria, Illinois, on January 19, 2011.

The latest models of the RoGator are packed full of innovations that help streamline the application process, reduce fuel consumption, offers unrestricted in-cab views of spray booms and other advantages. The new drive system on this sophisticated machine is designed with a hydraulic motor and a separate gear reduction hub. The control cab is specifically designed for application equipment and features a six-post design that provides more visibility of the boom tips than competing machines, in which boom views are often obstructed by cab-frame posts. The wider visibility and lower boom rests also come in handy during transport from field to field.

These key innovations were instrumental in the new RoGator receiving a nod for the nomination. Mike Maassel, an AGCO sales manager at Ohio CAT in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, says that these and other features make the RoGator a hot item with customers. The machine, he says, almost sells itself! “The RoGator is clearly a better product compared to competitive sprayers,” adds Maassel, who has many RoGator sales under his belt. “Once customers test drive the RoGator, they see the difference pretty quickly. It is clearly the superior applicator in a lot of ways.”

Another key selling point for the RoGator, Maassel points out, is the best clean- out feature available for liquid systems, which is key when operators switch from chemical to chemical. The tank on the RoGator also features a sloped bottom, which further facilitates tank cleanout. “The RoGator is also built with superior materials, but we’re still cost competitive,” he explains. “There are quite a few RoGators still operating in the field today that are 15 or more years old – that speaks volumes about the quality of the machine.”

Ro-Gator boom construction is also better, featuring more steel on the nozzle tips for increased durability, according to Maassel. Other attributes include improved cab controls, wider cab entry and the visibility of the front tire, which helps operators maintain position when traveling down crop rows. Add to these features easy maintenance of pumps and flow meters, and there’s little doubt as to why the RoGator took home the trophy in the Product of the Year competition for 2010.

Of course, the products that AGCO sells are only as good as the people who manufacture them. We take our hats off to our engineers for the many advancements they’ve brought to the RoGator and to the entire application industry. Thank you to CropLife Iron for creating the Product of the Year contest, and to everyone who voted for us. To say that we are tickled pink by this award would be an understatement!

AGCO is gratified to be a leader in innovative solutions for the application industry, but the reward is compounded when we see firsthand how these new offerings help our customers succeed – and we are able to win some awards and accolades along the way!
